A Sawmill & Wood Inventory Operator is responsible for assisting in the intake, production, quality control, and daily operations related to milling and drying material for The Company and company clients. You will operate, monitor and control automated lumber mill equipment to saw timber logs into rough slabs and lumber as well as plane and dimension to specifications.
Duties also include assisting in kiln operations including loading, unloading and inventory updates.
Job Duties:
- Assist in scheduling receipt of logs, inventory intake and milling schedule of Company and client material.
- Examine logs and rough lumber to determine size, condition, quality and other characteristics to set up the best plan for milling.
- Operate mill equipment to saw logs into rough slabs or lumber; saw, trim and plane rough slabs and lumber per specifications.
- Set up and adjust saw equipment and replace blades or bands as needed.
- Operate equipment including forklift to sort and stack lumber, move stacks to storage areas or drying kiln or into trailers.
- Monitor movement of lumber to ensure cuts are made according to specifications, and record, photograph and label individual wood slabs for inventory management
- Clean and maintain sawmill and kiln equipment and area. Perform preventive maintenance of mill and kiln including repair planning and troubleshooting equipment that is not functioning properly.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations and utilizing safety equipment.
- Utilize woodworking tools like hand-held router, table saw, band saw, miter saw, sander, etc when necessary

Technical & Mechanical
- Ability to drive a forklift safely and efficiently without damaging lumber or machinery.
- Experience operating milling equipment.
- Ability to inspect equipment for safety prior to use, and perform necessary basic maintenance tasks. Knowledge of milling equipment and operations including repair, diagnosis, and maintenance.
Production and Processing
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing production efficiency.
- Experience with inventory management.
